We are so grateful for the permanent home of MorningSun, 240 acres of beautiful land in the southwest corner of New Hampshire. Granite boulders rising out of hills and shallow valleys. Streams meandering through birch, maple and beech forest. Small lakes housing turtles, fish, beavers, frogs and dozens of other species. Rose quartz, feldspar and mica sparkling in the sunlight. Ospreys and herons soaring overhead. The sound of wind and birdsong rising and falling with the inhale and exhale of the living organism that is our new home.
The majority of the land will be forever protected in conservation. We will only build the off-grid, eco-designed residential community and education center on a small portion of the overall acreage, preserving and enhancing the beauty of this place for future generations.
While the majority of the MorningSun land is wild and free, a section of it has been recently logged and a couple of isolated spots were mined for feldspar half-a-century ago. In these areas, we actively embrace the role of healing stewards, working creatively on environmental remediation. We'll use native plants and permaculture to revive and restore those parts of the land that have been impacted by extractive industry and not so mindful practices. We see this stewarding and healing work as a wonderful opportunity to put our values and reverence for the earth into action. Over time, we will create demonstration projects, working with schools, colleges, non profits and others - both on remediation and in the creation of an edible forest garden and much more!
MorningSun is fifteen minutes north of Keene, New Hampshire, a college town of 22,000 people, with a growing alternative scene. We're half-an-hour from Brattleboro, Vermont, a classic cool New England town of cafes, bookshops and stately buildings on the banks of the Connecticut River.
As we sink our roots deeply into the soil, we are delighted to find that this little corner of the world is one of those micro-regions that draws alternatively-minded people from all over. Within a few miles (in literally every direction), we have new friends in other intentional communities, alternative schools, funky bakeries, eco-oriented non profits, wilderness adventure camps; a remarkably dense and vibrant array in one spot.
